Saturday was another perfect summer day and we had Shiraz out on the river for the afternoon. The wind was unusually unpredictable which made picking a course and staying on it a little harder than normal, however the crew rose to the challenge and we got some good practice in. We actually hit a high speed of 6.8kts with Matt on the helm. While not an all time record I think we can classify it as the fastest speed on a reef.
We had a couple of emergencies on the way in with the engine getting jammed in the up position. With stronger winds and poor propulsion we struggled to get Shiraz into her pen and floppped around for a bit. However we all obtained some more experience in what to do when things go pear shaped, and nothing got broken. The engine has a habit of getting stuck if pivoted, so I think its time to get it fixed.
I have attached a couple of photos, this time a shot of Matt, Xavier and Simon. I forgot to take a picture out on the water as it was busy, so this one is in harbour, where we we all had a drink to recover before finishing up.
